At 3:00pm on May 29, 2008 Maggies Austin did a sit in protest on the front steps of Truluck’s downtown Austin for not being open for lunch.

First, a little back story.  In June of 2007 Maggie and I dined at Truluck’s for lunch in what could arguably be the best lunch we’ve ever had in Austin, period.  We smartly chose the three course meal which started with a crab cake appetizer, and then sea bass for Maggie and a filet mignon for me, and then finally their chocolate cake for desert.

Words don’t describe how good this lunch was, so let me use a metaphor.  Pretend that you are laying on the beach getting the best massage ever, while watching TV as your winning lottery numbers in the 100 million dollar jack pot are called out, all while heroin is being intravenously injected to your blood.

So what do we do after this ridiculous lunch?  We go back the next day for seconds.  However things don’t go as planned.  When we get to Truluck’s there is a woman sitting outside callously saying that Truluck’s is no longer open for lunch.  WTF?  She goes on to hand us a coupon for a free desert.  The heroin is yanked from my arm and in its place they give me a breath mint.

In retaliation for this incredible injustice, Maggies Austin has decided to do a sit in.  We are protesting this restaurant in hopes that they will see the light and reopen their doors to the poor souls like us who were treated to the finest in lunches and then turned away.  Please email tperry@trulucks.com and ask him to reopen for lunch.

Without the heroin coarsing through our veins anymore, we did the next best thing possible to eating a seafood meal at Truluck’s.  A can of tuna on a box of Cherios on top of a dirty towel on the doorstep of Truluck’s.  Yes, we are junkies and the only cure is Truluck’s for lunch.

Here is the video from the sit in:
