Now folks, this is how you celebrate a birthday in Austin, TX. To surprise our friend Charlie, we picked him up in a Rockin’ Ride, the psychedelic bus you see pictured. This is no ordinary bus, we are talking touchscreen music videos and kareoke, strobe lights, a driver wearing an afro wig, built in coolers for BYOB, shag seating, this bus pulls out all the stops. Destination: Salt Lick. This BBQ joint is a meat lovers destination and it’s reach extends way beyond Texas. People order Salt Lick meat and sauces for shipment all over the U.S. When eating family style ($18.95 per person) Ribs, Brisket, Cole Slaw, Sausage, Bread, Potato Salad, etc…. be sure to save room for the peach or blackberry cobbler ($4.95)! Family style is great for trying everything and when a plate is getting low, the servers pile on the fresh replacements. Diners can forgo the family style and order a la carte. Salt Lick is also BYOB and has live music on the weekends which comes in handy if there is a long wait for a table. Since this spot is about 45 minutes out of town and BYOB, the Rockin’ Ride was a perfect idea.
