Jeffrey’s has been a top star in the Austin dining scene for over 25 years.  You must try the Oyster Yucca Root Chip appetizer (pictured), it is definitely a crowd pleaser.  Jeffrey’s is definitely $$$ but they have an amazing happy hour menu in the bar area.  If you take advantage of this, you can [...]

Since I work downtown, I have seen construction of Lanai from day 1 and I have to say the finished product is amazing.  Austin’s newest urban rooftop lounge, located at 5th & Congress right above The Marque, has  unbelievable seating, food (salads, apps, sandwiches, and cupcakes), and drinks.  If bottle service is your thing, don’t [...]

Today’s song of the day is ‘Mercy’ by Plants and Animals.  These Canadian indie rockers will be in town Oct. 20th for a indoor show at Emo’s.  These guys are good, definitely keep them on your radar!  And for those celebrating Rosh Hashana with me today, happy Jewish new year!

Mandola’s Italian Market in the Triangle Development in Central Austin is the best spot for picking up Italian groceries or having a casual Italian meal and wine.  You order at the counter and then sit indoors or outdoors on a cobblestone patio with a fountain where the servers bring your meal.  Quick, cheap, tasty, homemade [...]

The big question I hear around Austin recently is do I go to Widespread Panic at the Backyard October 10th & 11th or head to Dallas for the big annual Red River Shootout football game of Texas vs. OU.  It’s definitely a win/win situation because with Widespread at the Backyard, you get a see one [...]

How do I refuel in Austin after an exhausting ACL weekend?  I head straight to the Four Seasons to eat at Trio’s outdoor patio for a hearty breakfast.  This fall weather is perfect for the outdoor eating and Trio’s food is one of the best in town for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Austin food critic [...]

Today’s song of the day is ‘Ooh La’ by the Kooks and ‘Technology’ by The Whigs in anticipation for their sold out show this Saturday at Antones.  The Kooks are my favorite band in the world so I’m sure this week will go at a snails pace until the big show.  See you there!

Another year at ACL, another hot and crunch avocado cone from Hudsons on the Bend.  I look forward to this treat every year and the good news is Hudson’s is setting up a Hot and Crunchy Shack somewhere around town soon so you can get these cones year round.  And again, it’s the only time [...]

ACL Festival is finally upon us and the city is buzzing with visitors and music. Take advantage of Austin and attend the festival, go to the football game, see some aftershows, and don’t plan on recovering until Monday at work!  Oh yeah, and good luck with taxis and restaurant reservations!  FYI: I hear its kinda [...]

Today’s song of the day is Mugison’s ‘Murr Murr.’  This Icelandic singer songwriter takes the AT&T Blue Room stage on Saturday at 11:45 and also plays an official aftershow at Stubbs indoors on Saturday night.  If you like the Pixies or Ryan Adams, you will surely be a fan of Mugison!
