Cedar Door is a little gem hidden among the convention center and office buildings of downtown Austin.  This watering hole is the home of the original Mexican Martini and one of my favorite spots to take people from out-of-town because 1. These visitors have never heard of a Mexican Martini and 2. People who live [...]

Tuesday Nov. 4th, Ben & Jerry’s is giving away a free ice cream scoop to celebrate the election from 5-8pm. Not that we need food to inspire us to vote but it certainly doesn’t hurt!  FYI: Krispy Kreme is also giving away a free donut to those with a voting sticker.

EZ’s in Central Austin is the best meeting spot for students and families.  The food at this diner is fairly simple; pizzas, pastas, shakes, salads, and burgers.  It’s great for large groups because of the wide variety on the menu.  Here’s how it works: you order at the counter, they give you a number, grab [...]

Happy Halloween Austinites!  Today’s song of the day is ‘Ricochet’ by Shiny Toy Guns.  This Grammy nominated Shawnee, Oklahoma rock band is only playing in one Texas town on their current tour, Odessa.  Huh?  Anyway, if you are going to see STS9 at Stubbs tonight, get ready for the best costume contest in town.  Best [...]

El Salchichon on Congress & 4th in downtown Austin is owned by Javier Muniz, a local entrepreneur.  The Mexican Hot Dog and Hawaiian Burger are standouts.  $7 gets you a hot dog and plate of fries or a huge burger.  In these economic times, it’s all about what is convenient and cheap!

Iron Works BBQ at the edge of downtown can arguably be rated the #1 join in Austin (Salt Lick is in Driftwood and John Mueller closed years ago).  A little history: Iron Works started as a ornamental Iron Work shop owned and operated by the Weigl family, and in 1978 this tin shop was converted [...]

I’m not even sure why I’m including this in today’s posts, but why not?  Next Friday at Stubbs BBQ, Nov. 7th, from 1-4 pm, VH1 is hosting a casting call for male participants.  Single guys can compete for the love of former Rock of Love bachelorette, Daisy!  I’m speechless of this one.  Good luck guys, [...]

It seems as though trailer food has taken over Austin!  The newest player in town is Hat Creek Burger Co., located in a trailer between Star Bar and Ranch 616 on W. 6th.  This place serves up solid burgers, fries, and hand dipped Blue Bell milkshakes at a good price.   The good news is [...]

Today’s song of the day is ‘Motivation’ by Delta Spirit, an indie band from San Diego.  These guys are coming to Emo’s Nov. 22nd and hands down I won’t miss this show.  Remember, TV on the Radio is playing tonight (thursday) at Stubb’s, guaranteed great night!
