It’s not opening until May 1, 2009 but Max’s Wine Dive has started setting up shop in Austin. Located in an old but updated building at 3rd and San Jacinto, bricks and a vault door from before the renovation will be part of Max’s. I have been to the Houston location and this spot is one of my favorites. The menu has really good upscale comfort food like fried chicken but also has gourmet items like lamb 3-ways. Lunch, dinner beer, and wine will be served. Since this is Austin, and music takes precedence, there will be a juke box on site. Basements are basically unheard of in Texas but Max’s will have two private dining rooms for parties and a wine cellar in their basement. It’s nice to see restaurants still opening amid all the recent closings in this recession. A sushi joint called Piranha Killer Sushi is moving in next door.
