Counter Cafe in downtown Austin serves upscale comfort food in 700 square feet.  Walk in and see 20 customers, multiple cooks, and a huge kitchen within arms length!  Thankfully the AC is pumping!  This is not your typical greasy spoon diner, the menu upgrades your favorite classics using mostly high-quality organic, naturally raised, and local ingredients.  Expect prices to be a bit higher.  FYI: Open daily 8am-4pm.

Definitely come in small groups because this is a small place with one big table of 6, a couple 2-tops, and a picnic table outside.

Counter Cafe's Grilled Vegetable Sandwich

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich & fries, they were out of the veggie burger so this was the next best thing.  Maybe don’t pick the fries as your side, they are not near crunchy if thats your thing.  Thick and soggy.

Counter Cafe's Griddle

the griddle that made the grilled cheese, it gets pretty hot in here if you sit at the counter, beware.  You are right on top of the kitchen but its worth it to see the chefs in action.  And… one of the chefs use to cook at my sorority house, small world!

College Slacker

A bit pricy for my liking, so you'll find me down the street at Hoffbrau's for some good old fashioned steak. Organic be darned! I need me some large portions and cheap price, I'm a college kid after all!

Spoiled Brat

So what if Counter Cafe took over Austin institution GM Steakhouse. Did they serve Crab Cakes and Sweet Potato Fries? I think not!

OK, so what is the deal that you’ve decided a restaurant’s address must always be buried on the jump page? I don’t need all the friggin’ food-porn photography, I need an address and possibly a phone number. Get in, say yer piece succinctly, give the contact info, get out. It’s the secret of success in blogging as in radio PSAs.
