UPDATE:
Another successful year but still not sure what my costume was.  Maybe Studio 54, maybe Vanna White.  I live in Brykerwoods which is a pretty family-centric neighborhood and surprisingly we only had one trick-or-treater!  I guess fortunately/unfortunately more candy for me!  And it was nice meeting a maggiesaustin reader in a Randalls parking lot Saturday. [...]

Wednesday November 4 at 7:30 head to Austin Java’s flagship location for free appetizers, samples of this month’s featured coffee from Tanzania, and a discussion put on by the Master Brewer.  Austin Java hosts an Around the World tasting at the beginning of every month to display the month’s new Fair-trade coffee flavor from around [...]

Finally, the grass is back and the mud is (almost) gone.  Fly a kite or have a picnic this weekend, you deserve it!

Today’s song of the day is ‘Buriedfed’ by Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, a 26 year old singer/songwriter from Brooklyn.  Catch Miles tomorrow (Thurs. Oct. 29) at Emo’s w/ Warpaint.  This is the kinda song you would expect to hear while watching The Royal Tenenbaums.  Good music that takes you to another place and time.  Miles’ [...]

I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun, especially on a Monday!  The Highball is Austin’s newest bowling alley, but also so much more.  Besides 8 bowling lanes, the highlights are food, drinks, music, 7 themed kareoke rooms, 4 skee-ball lanes w/ ticketed prizes, and a ballroom.  When the owners heard the [...]

Apothecary Cafe & Wine Bar is Austin’s newest food and drink establishment on Rosedale’s restaurant row.  Located in the same complex as Blue Star Cafeteria and Sampaio’s, Apothecary is part coffee house, part wine bar.  By day, it’s a well lit coffee bar and at night they dim the lights, turn the music up, and [...]

Today’s song of the day is ‘The Shaded Forests’ by Deastro, a project that blurs the lines between electronic and acoustic music.  Randolph Chabot Jr. started to make electronic music when he was 13 at home in Sterling Heights, MI.  The rest is history.  Catch Deastro at The Mohawk w/ Max Tundra on Nov. 18th.

Today’s dish of the day is chicken & vegetable soup from Julio’s in Austin’s Hyde Park neighborhood.  As my friend Ginny says, this is a miracle hangover cure.  Try it for yourself!  The soup comes w/ mexican rice, limes, avocados, & tortillas.  It’s like Caldo de Pollo w/out the bones.

Julio’s 4230 Duval Rd Austin, TX [...]
