Torchy’s Tacos, an Austin institution since mid 2006 still pulls in the crowds.  I’ve been here countless times for the tacos, queso, Little Nookies (fried cookie dough), and Mexican Cokes.  I know there are some haters out there, but I only have great things to say about this taco joint.  And so do the judges at the Austin Chronicle who continuously choose Torchy’s for the #1 salsa in Austin and most recently, #1 for the mole at the Austin Chocolate Festival.

I think Torchy’s has the best queso in town, too. But the last few times I’ve been, the tacos have been just OK.

If you haven’t tried the shrimp tacos, you haven’t lived. Period.

They are about to open up in NW Hills. It will be an interesting Taco war with Taco Shack right down the road and their loyal customers.
